This way, or that way?
It finally happened. On Saturday, June 3, it finally happened.
The walkers went the wrong way. As Iıve explained earlier, Ani Pachen has been walking ahead of the group so that she can walk at her own pace and not fall behind. So, I drove ahead to check on her and then drove back to get gas and sometime in-between there the walkers managed to make a right turn when they werenıt supposed to.
Now, this wouldnıt be very surprising, but they were all in the van the day before when we drove the route and we never turned. It took me a while, but I found them ... about a mile off course. When I pulled up and asked them where they were going, they thought I was pulling there leg. It was pretty funny, really.
After we got back on track, a few people managed to find us and join for the rest of the dayıs walk. A couple of friends came down from San Luis Obispo again and walked too, they also stayed the night so they could walk the next day.
Our lunch spot today was probably one of the best weıve ever had. It was in a winery, situated next to a pond, with two fountains and fish and beautiful rolling hills with grape vines trailing off in every direction. Thank you to the vineyard owners.
After finishing our walk for the day, we made our way to the Chumash Indian Reservation where weıd be staying for the next two nights. They were kind enough to offer us housing in their Tribal Hall just two days earlier.
The reservation is interesting because they run a casino. I had my doubts at first, but when I found out that it employs about 500 local people (and has helped the local unemployment rate drop tremendously) and that they donıt serve alcohol, I decided it was probably a good thing.
A couple group members went over and dropped a few bucks, while the rest of us watched. No one lost to badly and even one member won a few dollars. It was fun.
