Wednesday, June 21st, 2000:

The first day the two groups walked as one.

We began the day at the 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica, with a total of sixty-eight walkers. The two groups combined with some very enthusiastic new walkers from all over California made for an exciting new beginning. We walked under the hot L.A. sun in Venice Beach, and the huge parade caught everyone's eye as we passed by.

We ended up at the Federal Building on Wilshire Blvd. at rush hour. Here we stopped for a rally, lining the side of the road and chanting into the megaphone. It was a bold statement for Tibetan freedom, and thousands of people drove past and demonstrated their support by honking their horns.

We then hurried over to Govinda's Hare Krishna center restaurant for an amazing dinner. It was a very full day.
