(<- Previous Report) May 7th (Next Report ->) Tenpa Lektsog began walking on March 10 in Toronto and had dedicated himself to walking the entire route. Unfortunately, early in the walk, Tenpa caught a cold that by Rochester had developed into the early stages of pneumonia. Although it was difficult to leave the walk, common sense told Tenpa to go home, rest and recuperate. On April 6 Tenpa returned to the walk strong and healthy. We are all so happy to have him back, and he is happy to be back. So happy, in fact, that he agreed to dance at a presentation--something he hasn't done in over 20 years! The walkers spent one morning class period talking with high school students at Athens High School. Dadon began her talk by asking the students to imagine if one day a country bigger and stronger than The United States came and said, "OK. Now we are in charge. You will learn our language and you will forget your religion. We will destroy your schools and your homes and you will go to our schools and live in our style houses. How would this make you feel." In the afternoon the walkers moved to the First Congregational Church in Binghamton, NY and practiced a dance routine to perform at that evenings cultural presentation. After only three practice runs and lots of laughing it was show time! Although a humorous disclaimer was made by the dancers stating that they were not a professional dance troupe, the audience loved the performance. After the good time of singing songs and dancing the audience watched the film Missing in Tibet, an informational film about the disappearance of ethnomusicologist Ngawang Choephel.
