Unto Death Hunger Strike Support the Hunger Strikers
Hunger Strike Updates
Tibetan Youth Congress has organised an Unto Death Hunger Strike at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi from March 10, 1998, the 39th National Uprising Day of Tibetans. Considering the very nature of Non-violent struggle of the people of Tibet, Mahatma Gandhiji's Non-violent method of Hunger Strike is the only option that Tibetan people could participate & it is exactly what the Tibetan Youth Congress has done on this occasion. Six Tibetans participating in this Unto Death hunger strike represents the six million Tibetans inside Tibet and their sufferings under the brutal Chinese rule. The participants are :
1. Dawa Gyalpo, Male age 50 The above six Tibetans are selflessly dedicating their life to the just cause of Tibet and Tibetans by participating in the historic cause of Tibetans. Today is the first day of the 2nd week of ongoing Unto Death Hunger Strike in New Delhi. To show our solidarity and support to the nationalism of above six freedom fighters, TYC, hereby organise this CANDLE LIGHT VIGIL at Mcleod Ganj. We appeal the people of the world to put pressure on the United Nations to consider the following demands of the ongoing above said Hunger strike in New Delhi. Below mentioned demands are the recommendations made by the International Commission of Jurists to the United Nations in their report on Tibet which was released in December, 1997. DEMANDS
1. To resume its debate on the question of Tibet based on its resolutions
of 1959, 1961 and 1965. TYC hereby appeal all the Tibet support Groups, friends of Tibetans and peace loving people throughout the world to organise a Solidarity Token Hunger Strike to give solidarity to the Tibetan Independence struggle in and outside Tibet. It is now high time for Tibetans living in exile to come forward with more planned activities to free Tibet from China. Under the continuing illegal occupation of Communist China, the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Tibetans and large number of Tibetans are being killed and brutally tortured respectively. In response to peaceful struggle of Tibetans for their just cause under the supreme leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, we have not seen any sort of positive step from United Nations regarding our issue during the last four decades. If UNO does not come out with any positive solution to the Independence struggle of Tibetan people in the near future, then many frustrated youngsters might choose violence means, which could become not only a big problem for both Tibetans and Chinese, but the United Nations and the people of International community may trap into trouble as well. In this Do-or-Die situation, we hope the United Nations General Assembly, the United Nations Commission of Human Rights and the UN Secretary General will effectively implement the above mentioned demands which are at a par with the UN Charter, and not bow down to any pressure from the authoritarian Chinese Government.
