Events in Taitiong

At the Taitiong train station about 50 people, members of World United Formosans for Independence (WUFI), the Taiwan Independence Party (TIP) and representatives of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), greeted the arrival of Norbu who said, "I think its wonderful what you all are doing supporting for independence. It is my honor to be here today. Thank you very much. Both Taiwanese and the Tibetans we both suffered under the brutal treatment of the Chinese government. So now we all work together definitely one day we will get our goal."

A professor from Cheng-i University and TIP member spoke of meeting Norbu and other Tibetan friends in Washington DC at the demonstrations during Jiang Zemin's visit to the USA and today asked Norbu if he could walk 20 to 30 minutes to Taition City Hall to which Norbu replied, "No problem. I can walk 20 to 30 hours!"

To the members of Taitiong city council and the press Norbu stated, "This is a great day for me. Particularly when I arrived at Taitiong the weather is so nice I think the weather is in support of us. This is a wonderful sign that definitely we will reach our goal. I am Tibetan and many Tibetans are just the same as me and they all can say whatever they want. This is a great opportunity to talk to you all and work on our common goal. I think if we all put our work together and our experiences together I think we will get very strong."

Mayor Chang Uneng showed her support by saying, "Our country has democratized to the extent that we can speak out freely, and we appreciate Professor Norbu's words about fighting for freedom and the freedom to speak and advocate for what they want."

Later in the afternoon commemorative trees were planted on the grounds of Cheng-i University and Norbu offered the following blessing: Let all the world be happy and prosperous.
Let there be a bountiful harvest.
Let the animal husbandry flourish.
Let all our heart's desire be met.
Let there be peace and happiness to all.
