Day 11 - August 4
At times, it rained very hard today and most of the walkers wore raincoats for the first time. Others went without raingear. No one complained about the rain. Two Tibetans from Madison and one from Kentucky joined us for the day. The Tibetan from Kentucky surprised us when she decided at the end of the day to walk with us the remainder of our walk. These 3 guest walkers really inspired everyone.
A Tibetan woman and her daughter from Madison traveled a long way for a very long time to bring us a great lunch. We walked 3 extra miles covering 15+ miles today. In the evening, we stayed with a Tibetan family near Chicago. They prepared a wonderful, huge meal for all of us. We had a great evening singing Tibetan and Hindi songs and sharing lots of stories with Tibetans from Chicago. This was the first time we stayed with Tibetans during this walk. Everyone seemed more relaxed and happier as a result.
It seems that 6 additional Tibetans from Chicago will join us for the rest of the walk as well as a couple from Minnesota and one from Indiana. Now our challenge is how to transport everyone to and from the route. A minor challenge compared to the actions of the hunger strikers in India and the brave Tibetans in Tibet. |
